About WHBC

Church History

At the end of the second world war, when new building projects were being started in the suburbs of Edinburgh, a small Sunday School was formed in the old Longstone Primary School. This was established by the members of Charlotte Baptist Church, based in the centre of Edinburgh.

From that small Sunday School founded in 1949, the present church at Clovenstone started. The building was officially opened in 1973, under the ministry of the late Rev Alex Hardie. The membership steadily increased and the building was further extended in 1982.

Church Today

Wester Hailes is a friendly, caring and loving church, which extends these qualities to the surrounding area. While one or two former activities have not yet been resumed following the Covid lockdown, the church facilities are used Monday to Friday by the Dove Centre, a charity supporting older people in the area. We have regular services at the local care home, and serve the local primary school through assemblies, Scripture Union and other means. We have now also restarted our parent and toddler group "Munchkins" on Monday mornings approximately fortnightly. See the latest Bulletin on the Media page for dates and times.

We meet together to worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30am, including a creche, Sunday School for Primary School children and a Bible class for older ones, and Sunday evenings at 6:00pm, and a midweek online prayer meeting via Zoom. Look at our latest Bulletin for more information (on the Media page) or see what's on in the Coming Events page.

If you are looking for a church in your area or interested in some of the activities we might offer, you are invited to come along and check us out.
